The Egypt eVisa is the official electronic tourist visa issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt. Launched in 2017 and continuously expanded since, the eVisa replaces the traditional sticker visa with a fully online process: complete a short form, upload a passport scan and a recent photo, pay the fee, and receive your approved eVisa as a PDF β typically within 3 business days, sometimes in 24β48 hours.
Egypt offers two online options through Evisa Rocket: the Single Entry eVisa ($45) for a one-shot trip, valid 3 months from issue, and the Multiple Entry eVisa ($90) valid 6 months β perfect for travelers who want to combine Egypt with a side-trip to Jordan (Petra), Israel, or back to their home country mid-trip and return. Both options grant a stay of up to 30 days per visit, suitable for a deep exploration of the country: pyramids, Nile cruise, Red Sea diving, and the temples of Upper Egypt.
The eVisa is open to citizens of 80+ countries including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, all EU member states, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Russia, China, India, the UAE, and many more. Some nationalities (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and a few others) enjoy visa-free entry to Egypt and do not need an eVisa. Use the country selector at the top of this page to confirm your eligibility before applying.
This guide walks you through every step you need to know: which eVisa to pick, eligibility, required documents, application process, fees in 2026, processing time, common rejection reasons, what to expect at Egyptian immigration on arrival at Cairo, Sharm El-Sheikh, Hurghada or Luxor airports, and how the eVisa compares to the Visa on Arrival sticker still available at major Egyptian airports.
Standard processing is 3 business days from submission. Many applications are approved within 24 to 48 hours, but during peak seasons (Christmas, Easter, summer holidays) it can extend to 5-7 days. We recommend applying at least 7 days before departure to absorb any unexpected delay.
Both Single and Multiple entry eVisas grant a stay of up to 30 days per entry. Single Entry is valid for 3 months from issue (you must use it within 3 months); Multiple Entry is valid for 6 months from issue and allows several visits, each up to 30 days. The 30-day stay cannot be extended online β you would need to leave Egypt and reapply for a longer return.
If you arrive at Cairo, Sharm El-Sheikh, Hurghada, Luxor, Aswan, Alexandria, Marsa Alam or Taba and you have time and cash USD ready, Visa on Arrival ($25 sticker) works for many nationalities. The eVisa ($45) is preferable when: you want to skip the bank queue (60 min in peak season), you don't carry USD cash, you fly in on a low-cost carrier that requires an eVisa for check-in, or you need a Multiple Entry visa for side-trips to Jordan or Israel.
No. The Egypt eVisa strictly authorises tourism. It does not allow paid employment by an Egyptian company, freelance work paid in Egypt, journalism for hire, religious work, or academic enrollment leading to a diploma. For employment, journalism, or long-term work, you need a regular work visa from an Egyptian embassy, sponsored by your employer.
Yes β the Multiple Entry eVisa ($90) is designed exactly for this. It allows multiple entries during the 6-month validity, each up to 30 days. Common itineraries: Cairo β Petra (Jordan) β Cairo, or Sharm El-Sheikh β Eilat (Israel) β Sharm El-Sheikh. Note that overland crossings (Taba border with Israel, Nuweiba ferry to Aqaba in Jordan) are valid entry points for the Multiple eVisa.
Single Entry costs $45 ($25 government fee + $20 service fee). Multiple Entry costs $90 ($60 government fee + $30 service fee). Children, infants and seniors pay the same as adults. The government fee is non-refundable once the application is filed, even if the visa is denied.
If denied, the government fee is non-refundable. Evisa Rocket refunds our service fee on request for first-time denials caused by issues we should have caught (photo, passport, document compliance). Common rejection reasons: photo non-compliant, passport less than 6 months from expiry, missing personal details, prior overstay. We help diagnose the cause and re-apply correctly, or pivot to a Visa on Arrival if your nationality allows it.
The Egypt eVisa is accepted at all major international airports: Cairo (CAI), Borg El Arab/Alexandria (HBE), Sharm El-Sheikh (SSH), Hurghada (HRG), Luxor (LXR), Aswan (ASW), Marsa Alam (RMF), and Taba (TCP). It is also valid at the Taba land border with Israel and the Nuweiba sea port for ferry arrivals from Jordan. Always declare your actual port of entry on the application.
Yes. Every traveler β including newborns, infants, toddlers, and minors β must have their own valid eVisa linked to their own passport. The fee is the same as for adults. Children traveling with one parent only should also carry a notarized authorization letter from the absent parent, especially if the child has a different family name.
Yes. The eVisa is your single travel authorization for all of Egypt, including Nile cruises between Luxor and Aswan, Lake Nasser cruises, and excursions to Abu Simbel. Cruise operators typically ask to see your printed eVisa at boarding alongside your passport.
Online extensions are not available for the eVisa. If you need more than 30 days, you should: (1) apply for the Multiple Entry eVisa and exit/re-enter to reset the 30-day clock, or (2) visit the Mogamma in Cairo's Tahrir Square (or any local Passports Office) to request a 1-month or 6-month tourism residency extension before your initial 30-day window ends. The extension requires fresh photos, accommodation proof, and a small fee.
October to April is the ideal window β cool temperatures, perfect for the Pyramids, the Nile, and Luxor. December to February is the absolute peak (best weather, highest prices, more crowded). Avoid June to August inland: temperatures regularly hit 45Β°C / 113Β°F in Luxor and Aswan. The Red Sea coast (Sharm, Hurghada) is comfortable year-round thanks to the sea breeze.
Yes β the eVisa is a 100% online process and you can apply from anywhere in the world, as long as your passport is from one of the 80+ eligible nationalities. The country where you apply does not matter; what matters is the passport you hold. Many travelers apply during a layover or while already abroad on another trip.
If your trip is limited to the Sinai Peninsula resorts (Sharm El-Sheikh, Dahab, Taba, Saint Catherine), most nationalities can enter under the simplified Sinai-only stamp issued at Sharm or Taba airport β free of charge, valid 15 days, no eVisa needed. If you want to leave the Sinai zone (visit Cairo, Luxor, Hurghada via mainland Egypt), then a full eVisa OR a Visa on Arrival is required.
Begin your online application on the official Egypt eVisa portal to ensure a smooth and hassle-free entry to Egypt. Remember to apply well in advance of your travel dates.
